Chris Walker Vs. Bitches Who Refuse To Eat Ham

Last Saturday, Anthony Bourdain and Mario Batali were at the Paramount in Seattle answering questions, sharing wisdom, and throwing good-spirited jabs at one another. Or, in this case, knock out punches. Bourdain said to Batali of his PBS show, “Spain… On The Road Again”, in which Batali and (presumably insufferable) actress Gwyneth Paltrow indulge in Spain’s bountiful, culinary offerings, “Why would you go to Spain with the one bitch who refuses to eat ham?”
Spain is well known for its pig products. Evidently, Paltrow, ever pretentious and (again) insufferable, follows a strict macrobiotic diet and did not eat meat during the series. I wouldn’t know because I didn’t watch the show. Sounds terribly boring, though.
Later in the evening Bourdain quipped, “The people who watch the Food Network are the ones with a gallon of soda and a bag of Cheetos going, ‘Oh, I could make that.’”
And the world seems right again.

By the way, I never really cared for Black Lips until I read this. Now I love them. While I’m at it, this is brilliant. Today is full of wonderful gems.

Leave Gwyneth alone! GOOP has been a thing of love for me since I’ve lived in New York–her restaurant recommendations are perfection (especially catering to the neighborhood that I am moving out of). She claims to adore Otto and several other meat packed restaurants. My image of her was nothing but pure (even after the time she went over to one of the Beastie Boys’ apartment and made dinosaur shaped seitan with one of their wives). Speaking of macrobiotics, can you please enlighten us?
It should be said, of course, that I will always side with Bourdain. Who wastes their culinary privileges on a public figure unwilling to partake in holy indulgent tradition? Regardless of whether or not she is insufferable, I don’t see the point in her tagging along as a Batali groupie, either.
So glad to see another post. Keep up the good work.
If I had a left nut I would have given it to be able to see the Bourdain/Batali Q&A…Bourdain had a guest post over on Ruhlman’s blog, ranting about the state of the Food Network, but I won’t even go there. I watched the Spain show, mostly because I’m a masochist, I guess. I’ve been wanting to take a trip over there, eating and drinking my way around the country, but don’t have the bucks this year, so I lived vicariously through Mario, though certainly not through the non-ham-eating bitch. The thought of being steps away from jamon ibérico and NOT putting a piece in your mouth just to experience what must be an oral orgasm is a fucking SIN.
